Surah Al-Jathiyah, Ayah 23 (45:23)

ٱلْجَاثِيَة

أَفَرَءَيْتَ مَنِ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَٰهَهُۥ هَوَىٰهُ وَأَضَلَّهُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ وَخَتَمَ عَلَىٰ سَمْعِهِۦ …

Quran 45:23 is ayah 23 of Surah Al-Jathiyah (“The Crouching”), a Meccan surah of 37 ayahs. It is in Juz 25, on page 501 of the Madani Mushaf.

45:23
أَفَرَءَيْتَمَنِٱتَّخَذَإِلَٰهَهُۥهَوَىٰهُوَأَضَلَّهُٱللَّهُعَلَىٰعِلْمٍوَخَتَمَعَلَىٰسَمْعِهِۦوَقَلْبِهِۦوَجَعَلَعَلَىٰبَصَرِهِۦغِشَٰوَةًفَمَنيَهْدِيهِمِنۢبَعْدِٱللَّهِ ۚأَفَلَاتَذَكَّرُونَ٢٣
afara-ayta mani ittakhadha ilāhahu hawāhu wa-aḍallahu l-lahu ʿalā ʿil'min wakhatama ʿalā samʿihi waqalbihi wajaʿala ʿalā baṣarihi ghishāwatan faman yahdīhi min baʿdi l-lahi afalā tadhakkarūna

Have you seen he who has taken as his god his [own] desire, and Allāh has sent him astray due to knowledge and has set a seal upon his hearing and his heart and put over his vision a veil? So who will guide him after Allāh? Then will you not be reminded?(23)

  16. بَصَرِهِۦbaṣarihihis vision
  17. غِشَٰوَةًghishāwatana veil
  18. فَمَنfamanThen who
  19. يَهْدِيهِyahdīhiwill guide him
  20. مِنۢminafter
  21. بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
  22. ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahiAllah
  23. أَفَلَاafalāThen will not
  24. تَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūnayou receive admonition
